The Rotary Peace Fellowship at Chulalongkorn University for mid-career professionals was the most international learning experience of my life. As a 25+ year veteran of the peacebuilding field, I appreciated that the faculty, my fellow students, and the curriculum offered new ideas, new case studies and new approaches. I gained 24 new brothers and sisters in peacebuilding from 20 countries who are senior professionals in their fields and with whom I continue to communicate and collaborate regularly. I also very much enjoy being a part of the global Rotary Peace Fellow community – it is a source of inspiration and hope in a challenging world.
My fellowship at the Rotary Peace Centre at Chulalongkorn University was a windfall; one that I continue to be grateful for. It provided me with the time and the space to pause in my career and think; to recalibrate and process and learn with a number of like-minded professionals. This experience was as rare as it was rewarding. The depth and variety of the experiences of the other participants—veterans, teachers, administrators, journalists, psychologists, practitioners of everything from counterinsurgency to trauma healing—brought an energy and nuance to our class discussions and group work that I found immensely beneficial. Ten years on, we are all still friends. Add to this the expertise of a diverse set of guest lecturers; the lessons they imparted upon us continue to impact my thinking. I remember my time at the RPC with great fondness, and I continue to recommend the program to current colleagues.
